WHY were women treated so badly back in the 1920s?

i've been researching this for a long time and all I get is HOW they were treated and what they could and couldn't do.

What is it about the way women were treated that you think was so bad? Women got the vote in 1920 in the USA, and in the UK women over 30 got the vote in 1918, and women over 21 in 1928. By the 1920s, married women had had the right to own and control their own property for many years. And they could divorce their husbands for adultery and cruelty.

Girls and boys both went to school and some girls went on to college. Not as many as nowadays, but then not so many boys went either.

It is true that women generally got paid less than men for the work they did, and some jobs were closed to women, but many women worked for a living, and managed to enjoy themselves as well. And most looked forward to being married.

The 'flappers' of the 20s had a lot of fun. They enjoyed drinking, dancing, driving automobiles, playing golf and tennis, some even flew aeroplanes.

The cinemas were full of films made to appeal to women, romances and dramas starring glamorous women like Mary Pickford, Dorothy and Lillian Gish, Pola Negri, Tallulah Bankhead, Theda Bara etc etc.

What makes you think women had it so bad in the 20s?
